BARE BONES INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL SCREENPLAY COMPETITION 2003 RULES & GUIDELINES For your records, you do not have to send with entry form. Your signature on entry form attests to your acceptance and understanding of these rules.

  • Screenplays/teleplays must be the original work of the applicant (s).
  • Screenplays already optioned are not eligible for this competition.
  • All entries should be registered with the Writers Guild of America or copyrighted through the Library of Congress.
  • Screenplays must be formatted in the manner considered standard for the film industry. www.finaldraft.com
  • Authors name must not appear anywhere other than on the title page.
  • For feature length screenplays, a Bare Bones Budget Summary should be attached to indicate a proposed budget level for production. This in no way limits actual budget or sales price.
  • A list of those qualifying as Semifinalists will be posted on the website shortly after the list is determined.
  • Three (3) finalists will have their screenplay read during the Bare Bones International Film Festival at a time and date determined by the festival director.
  • Scripts/Teleplays/Screenplays/Movie Preview Tapes, are not returned.
  • If your screenplay is selected for a staged screenplay reading or Script-2-Screen Festival Shoot, the festival is under no obligation to provide airfare nor expenses to attend the festival.

BARE BONES INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL MOVIE COMPETITION 2003 RULES & GUIDELINES

  • Films produced or initiated by a major movie studio are ineligible for competition, but can showcase.
  • We do not accept pornography .
  • All entries must come with the Official Bare Bones Entry form, the non-refundable fee and a NTSC VHS
  • The screening selections are at the sole discretion of the festival directors, all decisions are final.
  • All movie formats (35mm, 16mm, 8- High Def, Super-8, Digital Video, Camcorder, etc) must be submitted on a VHS (NTSC only) If submitting in a PAL format, include an additional $55 transfer fee.
  • Return postage or SASE may be submitted for the return of DVD, BETA-SP, VHS final screening tapes or updated tapes, otherwise the festival will not return tapes.
  • Non-English films must have English Subtitles.
  • A Bare Bones Budget Summary (will not be published) should accompany feature film submission to verify Bare Bones qualification of less than one/five million dollars and to qualify for the Auteur of the Year Competition. Optional for Shorts.
  • Screening dates and times will be set by a deadline designated by festival director with preference screening times going to filmmakers-in-attendance during the festival.
  • Student movies (High School & Under) are limited to 15 minutes.
  • All entrants are encouraged to submit publicity kits with photos, posters, flyers, bio, cast/production credits, etc. Required for "Shameless DIY Self-Promotion" Award consideration.
  • All films selected for screening will be posted on the website with links to filmmakers webpage. Photos & posters should be forwarded in .jpg format for easy posting.
  • Filmmaker is responsible for updating festival if premiere status of film changes prior to festival date.
  • If you upgrade your entry tape with a DVD or BETA SP for festival screening, include a postage-paid return envelope or send the postage fee in order to have your tape returned if you are not able to personally pick it up.

ALL APPLICANTS:

  • All monies must be in U.S. dollars: Either by U.S. Bank check, Post Office Money Order or via www.paypal.com ID is barebonesfilmfestival@yahoo.com. NO FEE WAIVERS are available.
  • To receive notification of receipt of entry, include a self-addressed stamped postcard.
  • Applicant (s) must have the legal ownership right to enter contest and must meet contest requirements.
  • Semi-Finalists and Finalists are to submit a photo and bio for publication. Additional promotional items such as postcards, posters, press kits, press clippings may also be submitted.
  • All Entrants accepted for screening are invited to attend the festival. (Two Free Festival Passes).
  • Finalists are expected to attend the Bare Bones International Film Festival & Awards Ceremony, unless other arrangements have been made. If unable to attend, please submit a videotaped response regarding your submission to be played during the Awards Program. The Festival dates are: April 21-27, 2003.
  • Winners will be announced during the Bare Bones Awards Gala on April 27, 2003. All awards are based on merit. The festival reserves the right to not grant an award .
