BARE BONES INTERNATIONAL INDEPENDENT
FILM FESTIVALS

Founded: Oct. 1999

Mission: To provide a platform from which to showcase low-budget (less than one million dollars) independent movies with a focus on championing the Bare Bones Auteur ( a multi-tasking visionary who assumes responsibility for creative and business aspects) locally, Regionally and Internationally.

FESTIVAL HISTORY

The founders, Oscar and Shironbutterfly Ray, are both independent filmmakers who understand the need for support, encouragement and recognition in the fast-growing indie film industry.

The festival have been attended by filmmakers, screenwriters, crew, actors, producers, distributors and film buffs from as far away as England, Mexico and Canada along with most U.S. cities.

The festival events include a Movie-Biz Career Day for High, Middle and Elementary Students, live screenplay readings, live movie shoots, live Indie Starz TV tapings, Live Radio/TV Interviews, local sightseeing tours, VIP Media mixer Receptions, Awards Gala, Midnight Movies, AfterParties, Open Mic Poetry, Performing Artists, Panel Discussions, Make-Up and Costuming Demonstrations, Stunt Safety Demonstrations and Lectures from attending Professionals.

Bare Bones has branched into two separate events annually.  The April festival focuses on the Indie Auteurs (Filmmakers) and the October festival focuses on the Indie Movie Scribes (Screenwriters).

Recognizing the contributions to Indie Film, each year, a Trailblazer Salute is awarded by the Founders.  Such notables as Clu Gulager, Robert Rodriguez, Rick Schmidt, John Wooley, Kevin Campbell and Valerie Red-Horse, Professor Nedwin "Ned" Hockman to name a few.

Bare Bones Mantras are being adopted by alumni filmmakers into their daily IndieWood conversations.  "Shameless Self-Promotions", "No Frills-No Waste", "By Any Means Necessary", "If you light it right."

Bare Bones has been dubbed "The Friendliest Film Festival in the World" by its attendees. Many cite the 'down-home' atmosphere and easy to talk to festival directors and the education, camaraderie and networking opportunities created during the festival that leads to friendships and partnerships.

Bare Bones supports, motivates, and promotes todays' most important art form-filmmaking.
