I've been a fiction and nonfiction writer all my life, and will always be a writer first and foremost.
I started doing Film Reviews at age 48. Started screenwriting and film acting (two separate endeavors) at age 50. My screenwriting
was only for the sales market at first.
At Spring 2004 Bare Bones, at age 53, I was persuaded to write simpler scripts and produce them myself. Began to actually
do that in Fall 2004. Since then I've produced about 30 film projects, and I have others in process.
I also trained with Oscar Ray in non-emotion-based acting, which for me was priceless.
I started directing my own productions in December 2005.
When Indie cinematographers switched to HD cameras around 2008, and my previous editors did not upgrade to HD, I had to
get my own editing system.
Basically, every project I do, I write or co-write it, produce, direct, edit, and usually play a character in the film.
I also do location scouting, craft services, blood and wound makeup, marketing, music soundtrack acquisition, computerized
special effects, and other jobs too numerous to mention.
I'd had the idea for a form of Journey to the Docile Pink Planet since about 2007, but it wasn't high on my priority list.
However, when I heard in Sept 2015 that a spaceship interior set in a green screen room would be available for filming for
a couple of weeks, I grabbed the chance.
Suspended filming on another project, did a rewrite of Pink Planet to make use of available cast, and shot all the spaceship
scenes in one weekday evening. Then, I shot all the rest of the film in one weekend plus another weekday evening plus two
very brief pickup sessions.
Found the soundtrack music I wanted. (The blues number that's used in the film and again in the rollup credits is by my
wife's cousin Howard Glazer.) Got hold of Trailers from real 1960-era SciFi films, and some NASA footage, all of which was
public domain. Got some royalty-free fake deep-space clips. Came up with a way to imitate the Cinemagic effect that was used
in the 1959 film The Angry Red Planet on which my film is partly based. And... there you have it.
